Birir

Sheikhanandeh

Sheikhan Deh: Meaning “village of the converted,” this area is home to descendants of the Red Kafirs who migrated from Nuristan, Afghanistan, in the late 1890s.   It is found at the ends of all three Kalash valleys (Bumburait, Birir, and Rumbur), these villages retain remnants of the Red Kafir traditions, including their architecture, lifestyle, and language.
